Don't be fooled by the nay-sayers spreading false rumors about the RDA (redevelopment agency) in Morro Bay.....educate yourselves.....ask questions....please inform yourself before just saying "no." Morro Bay has the opportunity to be pro-active by working with grant funding and existing tax revenue to improve our city for future generations. Do not be fooled by the nay-sayers stating that the City of Morro Bay can take your property by eminent domain. NOT one of the 5 city council members will support this in the final draft....they all agree that your home cannot be taken and would not support this issue. If your property is located in a "blight" area.....congratulations! This is a good thing....not bad! The council stated that property owners will have the opportunity to particate, but not require them to participate in improvement (redevelopment) plans. Property owners will have the ability to borrow money, at reasonable rates, to help make improvements to their property.....but, you don't have too. What about resale? If you are a realtor and are concerned about having to disclose this to perspective buyers....yes you would, but by educating yourselves, you will see that this is a benefit and will most likely increase the property value over time! I have heard from several community leaders in local areas and throughout California..."property owners call me all the time to ask me, how can I get on the blight list?" Why? Because they GET IT!
By sticking our heads in the sand, waiting for the fishing industy to "come around", or "waiting to see if the power plant income opportunities increase", or "we just need to increase tourism"......you are in denial. Yes, Morro BAY is beautiful.....but, the CITY needs to be maintained to promote continuted tourism. We need to harness what our beautiful bay has to offer our community; otherwise 5 years from now.....I fear we will be run down.....broke.....run by the county or all of the above......Educate yourselves, don't be stubborn just because you can. Listen to people that have actually done the research and heard the truth. Fight for the survival of your city by allowing the conversation to continue. We have a long way to go before anything is put into action, you can share your constructive voice throughout the process....get involved, and be apart of the future of your city. Remember, negativity spreads easily....because it IS easy.
